“All Japanese children speak Japanese”

This is a quote by Inichi Suzuki from his book “Nurtured by Love”. In a way this is also the basis of my teaching. I believe children have huge capacities to learn and we as teachers have a duty to teach properly and methodically so as to help our students become the very best they can be. All children learn to speak their native tongue and indeed if taught from an early age can learn more than one language.

All children can learn their own language and I believe all children can and should learn a musical instrument. Not only is it good for our civilized societies, it is also good for them intellectually and develops self - esteem and confidence.

I teach in a methodical way and work hard to craft my teaching style to suit the individual. I love teaching and love seeing the results of my teaching in many different ways.

I was asked once, how do you get your students to practise. I believe if a student is motivated in their lesson, than practise should be a natural result. I work hard to find the best path to motivate students and with a natural passion for teaching and a passion for music the results speak for themselves.

In my opinion lessons must be:

  • Fun

  • A rewarding experience

  • In a non-competitive environment

  • Assist in developing confidence and self-esteem

  • Develop better listening skills

  • Improve Concentration

  • Able to stimulate creativity

I use my sense of humour, my many years of teaching experience and my on going desire to continue to learn as the basis of my success. I am a teacher, a mentor, a friend and a person with a huge amount of patience and persistence.

I will forever be thankful to my special friend, teacher and mentor Byron Barnes.  He is a brilliant man with a heart of gold.
